April MOU Negotiations Update

Fellow employees,

I would like to address a few questions and comments that have been brought to my attention:

Is the GCEA contract going to council for approval?
Not yet. The membership will see AND vote on the contract before it goes to council for final approval.

How much longer is this going to take?
Realistically, as long as it takes to get to a place where we feel the membership would be adequately compensated for their hard work and dedication during their employment with the City of Glendale. There is no point in prematurely finalizing the contract knowing that we are not where we need to be. We continue to have weekly meetings with the city, and we feel that we are continuing to move in the right direction.

When is the current contract over?
Our current contract is over on June 30th 2024; starting July 1st of this year, we will begin our new contract.

A message from our GCEA Negotiator, Vicky Barker:
Your Negotiation Committee (Jaime Avalos, Ronald Lira, Matthew Mancini, Jeff Brown, Joseph Palos, Cindy Ritter, Gerald Mendoza, Iris Moreno Hernandez, Kerri Zelenak, and CEA Labor Attorney Vicky Barker) continued to bargain with the City last month. We are making good progress and hope to bring you a tentative agreement to vote on prior to the June 30th expiration of our current MOU.

As soon as there are meaningful exchanges, we promise to report these back to you. Feel free to contact any member of the team for more detailed information.

Thank you for your support!
Jaime Avalos | Street Crew Supervisor & GCEA President | City of Glendale
